American Heritage Dictionary, 5th Edition App Reviews

High tech white collar crime

feels like Ive been rob. The developers got the money and just dont care if the app works or not. They are the slowest to release update for new iOS. So sad, so sad, so sad. The app never did work since I had it. It seems to had disappeared from the App Store for some time (a long time). It show back up before I updated to the forth edition. Now after updating to iOS 9, the app is broke again. Wont be surprised to wait 6 months to year for this app to work again. Or maybe never.

app failure

App will not load on iPad Air 2 running iOS 9.0.2. Why havent they fixed this after all the complaints?

Very good dictionary.

Stopped working for a couple weeks with IOS9, but it’s fine again. Quite complete.

Keep crash...

Cant use this app... Need to update soon..

Come on AH, get an iOS 9 fix

I use this app all the time, though Im now disappointed that it is not launching in iOS 9. Once you get this fixed, Ill give it more than a lowly 1 star.

Worst Company Ever

The "Fifth" edition is the one that no longer works with iOS 9 . . . not to be confused with the "5th" edition, the one you have to buy AGAIN for full price if you want a working app under iOS9. This companys policy is to make you buy the app for full price every time Apple comes out with a new version of iOS. Ive owned paper copies of the American Heritage Dictionary since 1969, but after having to buy this app for $24.99 TWICE, I will never own another copy of their dictionary. Its too bad they chose greed over customer service.

Presently worthless

An esteemed reference that no longer functions. It simply crashes on attempting to launch. This has been the case for months with the most previous and present version. No longer supported?

A great app with great customer support.

This is the best dictionary I’ve ever had and it’s also my favorite app. Packed with wonderful features, it puts OED’s offering to shame. Cheap at this price, too. Five stars, indeed. My app crashed recently, so I emailed Customer Support. I received a prompt reply requesting proof of purchase, version, etc. Their request was simple, clear, and reasonable. The problem would have been resolved with their first (or second, or third) request had I been tech-savvy enough to know what I was doing. Although it’s not Enfour’s job to tell me how to take a screen shot, or how to navigate my iTunes account, that’s just what they did. Once I gave them what they needed I had my dictionary back in no time. Enfour responded to my problem quickly and fixed it. I can’t ask for more than that. My five-star rating is for both the app and the customer support.

Im done with this app!!!!!

Really? Your charging $25 per device. I bought a new iPad and transferred all from previous iPad to new one and now you want another $25. Beside this being the most expensive app Ive ever bought, you changed the terms to per device. You are way out of line. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS APP!

Still doesnt work

I dont know what the problem is but for some reason these people cant get their app to work. I have 12 different dictionaries on my iPad Air 2 and none of them have this issue. Last update didnt open and now this one doesnt. Customer service said they were going to fix it. Maybe if I look up fix in the dictionary Ill see it doesnt mean repair or bring to working condition...I thought it did.

Crashing on iOS 9

Support page does not have a way to report issues so have to do it here. Crashes on startup on iOS 9. Removed and reinstalled to no avail.

iOS 9 Crap iOS 9 crap iOS 9 Crap

App stop working with iOS 9, This stupid watch is killing all the cool apps. I wish apple would just stop with these updates, geez...

Crashes; doesn’t work with iOS 9

In iOS 9 it crashes on launch. FAIL. When will AHD BE FIXED? Enfour keeps telling me that it’s in review by Apple but that’s been the story for a month! I don’t buy that after all this time.

Finally working — keep tapping

For others having trouble. I have an iPhone 6S with iOS9. Customer support was telling me to choose the ‘restore’ option, but my screen didn’t show any options at all. I started tapping randomly on the screen, and a second screen requesting a book code or purchase popped up. Kept tapping randomly and suddenly the app opened at the Main Menu. Closed and reopened it, and it seems to be working. If this holds, I’ll up to 5 stars, ‘cause it’s a great dictionary.

Embarrasing

The app has been broken ever since the upgrade to ios 9. This is inexcusable for a $25 app. I had come to depend on it, but will do so no more. What will happen with ios 10, 11, 12? Should we expect 6 months out of every 12 that the app will actually function? $25 is a sham for this.

Cant rate this app as it wont open

Why does it download but the moment you try to use it, the app quits. Same with the original one I have. Updates of software is the demise of my iPad and this app is proof. It worked fine before I updated to the 9

Can anyone use this app?

I am completely unable to use this app. I have purchased this app twice (4th and 5th edition) so have put a lot of money into an application that no longer works. After having contacted tech support to let them know that I cant even open the app, they were still unable to resolve the issue. They said that the app is not working with the new ios updates. I expected that they would resolve this issue in a timely manner, but I still cant open it. How long do we have to wait for the app to work?

Buy & die

Once you buy it will work for a period of time then no longer function

Worst dictionary

It has been taking forever to update with os9 version - unable to open app in iPad. A totally confusing with 2 versions in app and buy app - a very bad idea from publisher. When works - pronunciation sound is completely a failure to compare with other app.

Great Quality Dictionary

I got this app for English my junior year of high school; (shout out to Ms. Wilson!) This app saved so much time, and bookmarking is great for when you need to look up a word you just looked up, but the definition didnt stick.
