Working fine for me now...

The iPad version quit working for me. Contacted customer support and got a quick response pointing me to the latest update (which came a few days later)… besides one minor glitch, all works fine now.

great app

Update fixed crashing issue, excellent app

When its good, its very, very good . . .

but when its bad, its impossible. AHD has been my favorite dictionary forever. Ive relied on the app for years. But since I got a new phone with iOS 9, Ive had nothing but trouble. App wouldnt work on new phone. Fix took several emails with the very responsive customer service rep. App now sometimes responds with native Apple dictionary page when I search. Latest download doesnt let me access any other functions if search field is empty. Im ready to concede defeat.

Excellent dictionary but poor interface and no support

I cannot say anything bad about the quality and quantity of words listed. Unfortunately, I have had no luck in reinstalling it on my new iPad, it just will not install. On my iPhone, it continues to function, but the company issued a semiannual update, 6.5.1, which is also impossible to install. I have not found a resource for contacting the iOS version supplier. Very expensive for NO support.

Best dictionary. Indispensable.

I have been pretty ticked at AHD and Enfour (the developer) over the years for shoddy follow-up and ill-timed updates. But you know what? Even though this app didnt work for months, now that its working again I am one happy man. Theres no better dictionary. The OED is more comprehensive, but this is usable, authoritative, and rich in content. I truly love it.

still not working

There is no response from a Customer service. Its horrible!!!!

Fix one thing, break another

Typical of the support of this app, the developers first neglect updating for support of iOS 9 for months after its release. After the released the update for iOS 9 we find that the "?" and "*" keys are missing from the Search keyboard. (See the app images in the App Store to see what they used to have.) They dont test their product.

An upgrade that downgrades

The upgrade finally works on an iPad but important parts of this dictionary have disappeared. There is no "about" button and you cant get to the pronunciation guide or the Indo-European roots.

Broken

It is sad that at this price level that a company cant develop a rock solid product. I have used this for years enduring major download after download promising fixes to problems I wasnt having. The latest update this fall disabled the audio pronunciation feature. This was the best feature of this dictionary. After searching for a solution I ran across the blog site of an English teacher that had his Twitter account compromised by this latest update where a bot on the apps instruction posted a tweet saying that he pirated the software ( he didnt). This is a new low. I had hoped for a fix from this company but I think at this point I will remove this deceitful software from my phone and wipe it down with Bleach.

I love AHD

But I dislike that you have to pay $24.99 for every edition that comes out. I had 4th edition but couldnt use it with new iOS versions. So, I went ahead and purchased the 5th edition to continue using the app. Ive been restricted many times for weeks or months at a time from using the app when they update or do "bug fixes". I usually end up using Google to find definitions. Anyway, when it works, its excellent! Unfortunately I dont think Ill purchase 6th edition if they cant manage the 5th.

Very unhappy

I bought this app some time ago, but after a recent update it no longer opens. The email address given for support doesnt work. I seem to have no other recourse. Its too bad. I liked the dictionary back when I was getting what I paid for.

Great dictionary, great company

Yes, you can get cheaper, even free, dictionaries. But if you really care about usage and etymology as well as definitions, you want the American Heritage dictionary. Worth every penny! And its got a great company behind it - always a quick, thoughtful, personal response every time Ive contacted them.
